Can media access the disaster zone?
Media cannot access the disaster zone without an official escort by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USAC) or a County representative. Permission must be granted by a property owner to take photographs or video of a private property; properties without permission granted must not be filmed or otherwise documented by media.
Access into the disaster zone is strictly controlled for official purposes only. According to Mayor Bissen’s 7th Emergency Proclamation, “entry to the Lahaina wildfire disaster area is prohibited unless authorized. The ‘Lahaina wildfire disaster area’ includes the area delineated by government-placed barriers.’”
